What information does a birth chart need?
A chart uses three pieces of birth information: your birth date, your birthplace, and your birth time. Date sets the day’s planetary positions. Place supplies coordinates and time-zone history. Exact time determines the Ascendant and house cusps.
If your birth time is unknown, many planetary signs can still be calculated, but the Ascendant and houses may not be reliable. A responsible reading should make that uncertainty visible.

Western and Vedic birth charts
Western astrology commonly uses the tropical zodiac, while Vedic astrology commonly uses a sidereal zodiac with an ayanamsha such as Lahiri. These systems place planets differently, so a chart should identify which system it uses and keep that system consistent from calculations through interpretation.

Can I get a birth chart without an exact birth time?
Yes. Planetary signs may still be useful, but the Ascendant and houses should be treated as unknown or approximate.
Is a birth chart the same as a horoscope?
